Description Notes

botanical teaching model of Pirus made of wood and papier mâche by Hagenbeek Wageningen (or Brendel of Berlin) from the 19th century.

Wooden base painted black. In the centre of the base is a blue label with Latin classifications, English, French, German and Italian translations. Written on to this is the number ‘368’, probably in felt tip pen. Below the blue label is the sticky residue of what was probably a white label with blue border. The base is turned with a turned wooden column to support a flower that can be disassembled into two parts. The stem is of wood with a hole at the top for the two parts of the flower to slot into. As with the other Hagenbeek Wageningen models a paper label on the stem was there but in now missing, sticky glue residue remains. The flowers are painted white with pink centres.
