Description Notes

Botanical teaching model, Lilium martagon (Turk's cap lily), by Robert Brendel, Germany, c. 1880. Made of wood and what appears to be resin.

Circular wooden base with turned column to hold the plant stem in place. On the base is a label possibly was blue or green in colour. The latin classification for the plant is in typewritten black ink. An embossed stamp reveals the makers details. Of the Robert Brendel series this was ‘No. 57’. An newer handwritten label white with a blue border is at the base of the label where the address of the maker Brendel would be if it wasn’t worn away. At the base of the plant’s wooden stem is another label with red border and the number 6 in black handwritten ink

The stem of the plant is of wood into which the flower is held in place. The flower is not removable from the stem. The petals are constructed using a curved brass prong inserted into or covered by resin.
