Description Notes
Botanical teaching model of Triticum vulgare hibernum (wheat) by German maker Robert Brendel, circa 1880. Made of wood and papier mâche.
Circular wooden base with turned column to hold the plant stem in place. On the base is a label possibly was blue or green in colour. The maker's details and the Latin classification for the plant is in typewritten black ink. Of the Robert Brendel series this was ‘No. 7’. A newer handwritten label white with a blue border obscures the address of the maker Brendel.
The stem of the plant is of wood into which the flower is held in place. The flower is removable from the stem and separates into two pieces, one of four petals and the other of one petal. The petals are constructed using a curved brass prong inserted into or covered by shaped card.
Condition Fair.
