Description Notes
Botanical teaching model of Prunus cerasus by German maker Robert Brendel, circa 1880. Made of wood and papier mâche.
Circular wooden base with turned column to hold the plant stem in place. On the base is a label possibly was blue or green in colour. The makers details and the Latin classification for the plant is in typewritten black ink. Of the Robert Brendel series this was ‘No. 15’. A newer handwritten label white with a blue border obscures the address of the maker Brendel.
The stem of the plant is of wood. The teaching model is of a vertical cross section of Prunus cerasus using cloth, feathers and papier mâche to represent the anther, stamens etc.
