Up the side it reads ‘shelly marine sands and silty clays’. Along the bottom of the chart it is labelled ‘Betula’, ‘Pinus’, ‘Picea’, ‘Tsuga’, ‘Umus’, ‘Quercus’, ‘Alnus’, ‘Carpinus’, ‘Pterocarya’, ‘Gramineae’, and ‘Chenopodiacea’. On the right hand side the chart is lettered a, b, or c. It is marked with a zone from L1 to L5. It is also labelled by Stage. These are: ‘Ludhamian’, ‘Thurnian’, ‘Antian’, or ‘Baventian’.
