Description Notes
Diagrams depicting Volvox aureus (=V. minor); antherozoids fertilisation, germination of oospore. Seven diagrams, all printed and in colour. They are numbered from ‘Fig. 1.’ to ‘Fig 7.’. Three are also labelled with letters, although there is no key. There is a ratio in the centre of the chart. The inscriptions are printed in the top left corner and across the bottom of the chart.
Reference numbers are in the bottom left and top left corners of the chart.

Description
Swiss husband and wife team Arnold and Carolina Dodel-Port created this illustration for their Dodel-Port Atlas, an atlas of botany for school students. Both botanists (Arnold at the University of Zurich), together they made many new discoveries about the plants they were studying. They wrote to Charles Darwin, who said that Carolina’s drawings showed information about plants in a 'wonderfully clear manner'.
