Description Notes

Diagrams depicting sporangia on a fertile frond of the fern Botrychium simplex.
Three diagrams, all of which are drawn and are in colour.
The inscription is stencilled below and to the right.
No other labels.
Reference numbers are in the top right and bottom right corners. (Previous PS ref. was Q19)
Pencil notation in the bottom left corner records the family as “Ophioglossaceæ” also a pencilled ‘VI’.
(NB: Botrychium are one of four genera of the family Ophioglossaceae, which being eusporangiate have fertile fronds rather than the fertile leaves found in the leptosporangiate ferns, such as the family Polypodiaceae.)
