Description Notes

electrophorus apparatus that forms part of an electrostatic set accompanying the Van de Graaf genrator Wh5748. 20th Century. For demonstrating electrostatic induction. Comprising of a disk of resin enclosed in a metal dish. It appears that the original version is missing and has supsequently been replaced with a ‘home made’ version that consits of a domestic metal circular tray with a thick (approximately 4mm depth) layer of resin. On top sits a brass disk smaller in diameter than the sole, it has a vertical brass collar from which extends horizontally a brass charging knob and vertically an ebonite handle. The brass disk is made by Phillip and Harris Ltd of Birmingham
