Print, humorous composite caricature, entitled “A Chymist”, published by William Bernard Cooke, English, 1829.

Published June 1st 1829 by William Bernard Cooke. An image in the “human form” but made of chemical laboratory apparatus. Showing a retort at the chin and a balance for the right arm. Below the image is a comic poem by Thomas Hood, which reads:

“A Chymist this!-- your shoulders do not shrug--
Why not-- when Mathus proves mankind a Drug?”

Mounted onto thick paper and enclosed in a mountboard frame.

One of a set of two - see Wh.5828 for “The Geometrician”.
