Description Notes

brass station pointer by A & N.C.S.L. ; c.1850

Brass degree circle with three inner spokes, one of which bears signature 'A & N.C.S.L.' Scale marked 0 - 360 degrees in half degree intervals in one direction. A scale from 360 - 320 degrees has been drawn on in the opposite direction. Degree circle has one fixed arm, marked from 2000 to 5000 in 1000 intervals. Two other brass arms pivot about the centre. Both are marked with scales from 3000 to 5000 in 1000 intervals. Both pivoted arms have a brass vernier scale from [0] - 30, marked in degree intervals and can be clamped into place with a knurled brass screw. All three arms have a separate extension piece, marked 8000, 9000, 10 in 100 intervals. Each arm extension is attached with a knurled brass screw.

Fitted wooden box with blue baise bottom and covering protruding surfaces in lid. Box is stamped with Brian Harland's stamp in three places on the inside, twice on the inside of the lid and once on the left side of the inside bottom. Outside has label stamped with Brian Harland stamp and 'OPP, 1108 - 1, station pointer'. Label next to it reading 'PROPERTY OF Mr. HARLAND'. Corners remain of another large label on inside of box lid.
