Provenance
Donated in 10/09/2003. Used by the donor's wife at Newnham College whilst studying during the 1960s. The microscope was given to her by her great uncle, James William Wood (1890 - 1978) of Leeds, a chemist employed by the coalboard who had previously used it.

Description Notes
Watson Edinburgh-type student microscope. Rigid black enamelled brass tripod stand with brass body and extra binocular body with two x6 eyepieces. Mechanical stage with metric scale. Nosepiece with triple objective changer fitted with 1/2 inch Baker, 1/6 inch Watson and 2 inch Baker objectives. A plano-concave mirror is on a collar below the substage assembly, which is on rackwork for focusing. Other objectives 1 inch Watson parachromatic, 1/12 inch Watson oil immersion. Many accessories including a powell & Lealand vertical illuminator, bullseye condenser with detatchable base and stage clips.
Housed in original fitted mahogany case with sliding drawer for objectives. Hand written paper note written by pervious owner, outlining objectives and accessories with notes on how he used them.
