Description Notes
Watercolour on paper of the Reverend John Flamsteed, entitled ‘Dr Flamsteed seated in clerical robes by table’, by Sylvester Harding (1745-1809).
Flamsteed has a book under his left hand.
Painting has dark grey mount and brass-coloured frame.
Condition: Fair.
Frame has small chip along right-hand edge, a number of small scratches and chipped corners. Glass cracked, bottom left corner.

Description
The Reverend John Flamsteed (1646 - 1719) was appointed the first English Astronomer Royal in 1675, was a member of the Royal Society, calculated the solar eclipses of 1666 and 1668, and was responsible for several of the early sightings of the planet Uranus.
Sylvester Harding (1745 - 1809) was a successful portrait artist, engraver and miniaturist, who exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1777 and 1787.
