Description Notes

Ammeter held in light brown leather case, with metal clip buckle on front, and leather strap.

Ammeter case is made of black plastic, and consists of a handle, above which is a semi-circular dial gradiated and marked with three seperate scales (0-25; 0-50; 0-100 Amperes, A.C.). Below the dial, on the underside of the circular base to the main body is a sliding switch, which can be moved to set the ammeter to 10; 25; 50; 100; 250; 500; and 1000.

Below and to the side of the dial is a trigger grip the enables the user, holding the handle, to move one of the arms of the large clip (above the main body) to seperate the clip so that it can be clipped onto an electrical circuit.

The other half of the metal clip is held stationary above the main body of the ammeter in an L shape. Both halves of the clip are sheathed in rubber.

Description
A large clip ammeter like this is likely to have been used in industrial settings where it was desired to measure current without breaking into the circuit, for example on tram/train lines.
