Description Notes

demonstration model of a cut away view of a cell; 1950s.

Model is made of painted synthetic foam mounted on a turned wooden base. The cut away area shows approximately a quarter of the interior of a cell and this section is painted in various colours.
The individual interior sections are numbered and differentiated by various textures and colours.

Stamp affixed to the rear of base with illegible writing in blue ink (perhaps Latin name of cell?).

Generally good condition. Some cracked and broken nodules on exterior surface and also some general surface damage (ie chipping). Surface of the cut away area has minor cracking and scoring.

Dating method - taken from auction house catalogue.

Biological model used for teaching purposes in the subject of cell biology made in 1950s.

This model shows the interior of an animal cell. It would have been used in a school to teach the basic structure of cells. The average human body contains over ten trillion such cells.
