Six botanical Models of economic Plants: cacao, tobacco, tea, olives, cotton and coffee, by the“Laboratorium fur Biologie und Projektion”, Austrian, c. 1900.
All six models are made of mixed material, including wood and canvas. The models are mounted on card backing using wires, and placed inside fitted cardboard boxes. Each model’s card mount is stamped with: “Laboratorium fur Biologie und Projektion GRAZ, II, Alberstrasse 15”.
Each model comes with a loose name label indicating plant type, written in manuscript. The plant type is also written in manuscript in crayon on the lid of each box.
6255.1 - Kaffee
Wooden stem with 10 large green canvas leaves attached, plus a number of small white canvas flowers, and two buds of multiple dark red and orange berries.
6255.2 - Kakao
Cacao Model is in two parts. One pod is attached to the lid of the box. Plant model has wood stem with 8 large green canvas leaves and three pale brown leaves, plus a number of small pink canvas flowers, and two cacao pods.
6255.3 - Thee
Wooden stem with 16 medium sized green canvas leaves, plus four medium white and pink canvas flowers.
6255.4 - Oliven
Wooden stem with 14 long thin dark green canvas leaves with light green veins, three stems of small white flowers and three olives. (Name label missing).
6255.5 - Baumwolle
Wooden stem with 7 dark green multi-pronged canvas leaves, two large light yellow canvas flowers, two large real wool buds, one is no longer attached to plant.
6255.6 - Tabak
Four very large light green canvas leaves, wooden stem, long thin pink flowers grouped in two stems of two, one stem of three and three single flowers (eight flowers in total).

On display here are models of cacao and olive plants, made using wood and canvas. These are part of a set of six models, the others being tobacco, tea, cotton and coffee. These crops were grown and sold for economic gain.
