Description Notes
Box of wood-preparations, containing 20 panels each mounted with dried samples of leaf, wood, flower and seeds, c. 1900.
All 20 panels consist of a piece of card, with green tape edges, with dried samples of leaf, wood cut, wood bark, flowers and seeds glued to the surface. Each sample has a small label next to it indicating what the sample is (e.g., “Rinde” [bark] or “Langsschnitt” [long cut of wood]). Each card also has a label attached to the top front, which indicates the type of tree that the samples have come from.
Condition: Fair - areas of damage and deterioration include name labels (thoroughly worn and faded), brown discolouration and foxing to cardboard backing, some of the leaves and flowers has started to disintegrate. The wood samples are however in very good condition.
The original box is in quite poor condition. Large areas of damage to outside with sever discolouration in places and rips and tears to corners.
