Description Notes

Phrenological head (bust) showing the ‘Psycho-Physiognomik’ theories of Carl Huter [Hueter], German, c. 1900 [Whipple name: “Carl”]

The bust is made of painted plaster, mounted on a stand of plaster painted to resemble marble. Different phrenological regions are marked and labelled on the head, neck and torso, along with two short explanations of phrenological theories relating to the left and right sides of the head.

The inscription on the reverse gives details of “Grundlagen der Menschenkenntnis” (”Fundamentals of human knowledge”), an explanatory book on Huter’s theories, by Amandus Kupfer.
