Description Notes

Two framed copperplate prints of the celestial sphere, being uncut globe gores. Divided into 12 parts, each corresponding to one sign of the Zodiac, showing only the stars in the Northern celestial sphere. Plates numbered I–IV, but joined into two sheets. Additional segment for the North celestial pole and surrounding area. Major stars and representations of the constellations marked.

Condition: good; incomplete (lacking southern portion of the globe). Contained in two wooden frames with card mounts; print III is missing a small 1 inch diameter semicircular segment from the lower edge.

The origin and maker of these uncut gores are unknown. Dividing into twelve parts, each section corresponds to one sign of the Zodiac and only the stars in the northern celestial sphere are depicted. Only the major stars and constellations are represented.
