Nickel-plated surveying level, by Berthélemy, French, c. 1880.

The telescope with rack and pinion focusing and dust cap to the object glass, located in twin supports with clamps holding the upper limb with bubble level and fine rack and pinion adjustment for two prisms arranged on the upper bar, the prisms and rack motion arranged to rotate for side viewing, the lower bubble with fine screw adjustment by key, the lower limb with fine screw vertical adjustment, raised on a truncated column over the horizontal plate incorporating a bubble level, fine screw adjustment and clamp, on tripod stand with three adjustable screw feet.

Condition: good (complete; though was originally listed at auction as “contained in the original fitted mahogany case with maker’s trade label”; this text was removed in a late notice)
