Two framed plaster and papier-mâché anatomical relief models of a guinea pig and a pigeon, edited by Dr. Bastian Schmid, a part of a series entitled “Vergleichende anatomie der wirbeltiere” (Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates).
[6532.1] Papier-mâché and plaster anatomical relief model of a pigeon. Front shows cross section of whole bird, as well as of the brain, digestive system, and stomach. Additionally shows feathers on the left wing and the tail. Includes maker’s stamp on bottom right, “D.H.C.”.
Back of frame includes a detailed description and labelled image (reproduced from the front) of the bird’s anatomy in German, as well as giving the latin name of the pigeon, Columba Domestica. The description illustrates what has been included in the relief, including mainly the digestive-, respiratory- and circulatory organs.
[6532.2] Papier-mâché and plaster anatomical relief model of a guinea pig. Front shows cross section of whole animal, as well as of the brain, stomach, appendix and small intestine, as well as a cross section of an embryo on the right, one of more that were removed from the first guinea pig (according to description label). The embryo’s jaws have been removed, showing the respiratory, circulatory and excretory system. The left guinea pig is a female, the right embryo is male.
Back of frame includes a detailed description and labelled image (reproduced from the front) of the guinea pig’s anatomy in German, as well as giving the latin name of the animal, Cavia Porcellus. The description illustrates what has been included in the relief, including mainly the digestive-, respiratory- and circulatory organs.
