Description Notes
Glass display case showing the production of papyrus, with labels in German, c. 1920
Glass display case showing how ancient papyrus was made, in 7 stages. The case shows the stem of the papyrus plant, described with it’s latin name Cyperus papyrus L, as well as a cross-section and a long-section of the stalk, both labelled accordingly. In the centre is the flower of a papyrus plant, dried. From the top right downwards is a sheet cut from the stem of the papyrus, a macerated sheet showing strong vascular bundles, and a finished sheet with hieratic characters.
Labels are partially ripped but mostly still legible, otherwise in very good condition.
Condition: Good/complete.
