Description Notes

Achromatic compound microscope with two objectives, by J. Woolley, Sons & Co., English, 1 1/2 twentieth century.

Brass achromatic compound microscope with double-sided mirror, adjustable height and rotating diaphragm with 4 sizes of hole. Tripod base is painted black, with some scratches, and parts where the varnish is worn away. Comes with two objectives (1 inch and 1/6 inch) which screw into the lids of brass screw-top canisters. Inscription on the back gives company name and location.

Some scratches to metal, particularly on eyepiece and stage where stage clips rotate.

Box is lockable, but without key; can be sealed with two metal hooks. Leather handle at top of box is missing. Has inserts to secure microscope, and another to secure the objectives in their canisters. Box has split at the rear on the join between two parts, as well as another from bottom upwards. Otherwise wood is quite scratched but in good condition.

Condition: good/complete.
