Aristo-Scholar VS-2 slide rule in case and four-figure tables logbook by C. Godfrey & A. W. Siddons, Cambridge University Press, English, 2 1/2 twentieth century.
[6552.1] Aristo-Scholar VS-2 slide rule in red and white case, commonly used in secondary or grammar schools (children ages 11 - 18). One side, in yellow and white, is labelled L (indicating logarithms to base 10), numbered 0.0 - 1.0; K (indicating cubes and cube roots) numbered 1 - 1000; A (indicating squares, square roots, multiplication, division), numbered 1 - 100; CF (indicating multiplication without slide resetting, division, tabulation, proportions, multiplication and division by π) numbered 3, 3.5, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5; C and D numbered 1 - 10 at identical increments, both of which indicate multiplication, division and proportion; S (numbered 5.5. - 90), ST (.55 - 6) and T (5.5 - 45) each indicating trigonometrical functions, solving right triangles and complex numbers, on which all three have cos marked in red. Opposite side (white), labelled 1 - 25 cm; DF indicating multiplication without slide resetting, division, tabulation, proportions, multiplication and division by π and numbered identically to CF on the previous side; B, indicating squares, square roots, multiplication, division numbered at 1 - 100; Cl, indicating simplified multiplication, division, fractions, proportions and tabulation and numbered from 10 to 1; C and D both of which indicate multiplication, division and proportion and are numbered identically to the previous side.
Good condition, some scratches and fingerprints to plastic. Case has marking where original owner’s name was assumedly taped. Complete.
[6552.2] Four-figure tables book, by C. Godfrey and A. W. Siddons, published by Cambridge University Press. Inscription on contents pages indicates book belonged to a ‘P. Grafand’ (or similar spelling). To be used in accompaniment with slide rule to determine logarithms, square roots, etc. Missing pages 45 - 46. Front and back cover covered in calculations and doodles by original owner, Gillian Simmonds.
Poor condition, missing some pages, front cover very fragile and may fall off soon. Incomplete.
Condition: fair, complete.
