Description Notes

Papier mâché and plaster anatomical model of a frog, by Emile Deyrolle, 2 1/2 nineteenth century.

Papier mâché and plaster anatomical model of a frog, by Emile Deyrolle. Shows organs including heart, right lung, left lobe of liver, stomach, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen and small and large intestine. Model is female, as includes eggs and oviduct on frog’s right side. Shows the circulatory system as well as a cross-section of the tongue.

One side of frame missing at the bottom - large space at bottom suggests there may have previously been an explanation attached. Back of frame includes a metal hook at top so it could be hung; wood has cracked around this. Otherwise in good condition.

Condition: good; complete.

Description
This anatomical frog model, made by Émile Deyrolle in the latter half of the nineteenth century, would have been used to show students the circulatory system as well as the various organs and their places within the body. This model is a female; on the left a small group of frogspawn can be seen next to the oviduct.
