Description Notes

Chemical tank for magic lantern, English 2 1/2 nineteenth century/ early twentieth century

Chemical tank for a magic lantern, in original box. Wooden box/frame with two glass windows; space between windows is hollowed out. Rubber seal between wooden frame and space between windows, which is coming away from frame in one place.

In use, it would be placed in the lantern stage instead of a slide, and the window filled with a chemical solution, to perform an experiment which could thus be projected. Typically solutions were small creatures swimming in pond water, or the crystallisation of solutions.

Slightly dirty, rubber coming away from frame in one place. Cardboard box is very fragile, and one side is broken, with wear to all edges and discolouration to the label.

Condition: good/fair; complete.
