Postcard depicting the “Trip to Mars by Aeroplane” amusement park ride at Coney Island’s Luna Park. The coloured illustration shows the ‘landing station’, populated with visitors queueing for the ride. The other side gives space for communication and for addressing the postcard, as well as a stamp.

Illustration is a little worn in places from folding, edges are abraded. Back of the postcard is yellowing slightly. Top right corner is ripping across a dog-ear fold. Otherwise in good condition.

Description
This postcard depicts the facade of the ‘Trip to Mars by Aeroplane’ ride at Luna Park on Coney Island. The ride ‘A Trip to the Moon’ was transformed into the Mars ride in 1912 when Luna Park owner Frederic Thompson went bankrupt and the park reopened under different management. Riders rode an aeroplane up to Mars, before disembarking and touring the planet with guides.
