Description Notes
Postcard, ‘La lune pour deux sous’, depicting telescope and observers, by Künzli Frères, French, early 20th century.
French postcard featuring black and white photograph of a man and a young boy. The young boy looks through a telescope whilst standing on a ladder; the telescope is partially out of shot. The man, standing behind, points his walking stick in the same direction that the telescope points in. They are standing in a wide square, with some iron girders on the floor in the middleground and housing in the background. The bottom right has the number ‘32922’(?) on it. On the bottom right is a small logo with the letters ‘K.F.’ which has ‘Paris’ written above and ‘..teurs&arts’ written below (possibly ‘auteurs’, i.e. authors). There is space below the image for a message, typical for postcards of this era.
The caption is seemingly a pun and roughly translates as: ‘The moon for two sous’, or ‘The moon for two underneath’.
The reverse of the card reads ‘CARTE POSTALE
Ce cote est exclusivement reserve a l’adresse’, translating as ‘Postcard, this side is exclusively reserved for the address’. On the bottom right of the reverse side, in pencil, ‘52’ is marked.
Reverse is a little dirty and the front is yellowing, but otherwise in excellent condition, complete.
