Description Notes

Terrestrial orbit calendars, by Emile Kraft, French, early 20th century

Two panels with two hand-made terrestrial orbit calculators, connected in the middle by a canvas link and contained within black box. Hand written and coloured. The left side shows twelve images of Earth with Zodiacal and calendrical rings. A rotating index is fitted with two windows for the terrestrial position and corresponding sign of the Zodiac with a fixed disk representing the Sun with equinoctial and solstitial lines. Above are instructions for use. On the right hand side, another moving diagram demonstrates the changes in the length of the date and night as date and latitude on the Earth changes. A strip of celluloid demonstrates the light of the sun, and is fixed to a rotating Image of the Earth with an attached trigon of signs and dates that give the lengths of day and night and degrees latitude. Instructions for use as well as a legend is included. The model is listed as 'Modele no. 2'.

Seller notes that the maker could possibly be the Emile Kraft of Juan-les-pins who authored memoir Essais et Recherches sure la Theorie des Nombres in 1946.

Comes with box as well as holes at the top for hanging the diagrams.

In good condition complete.
