Examples of 'Filshie clips' and associated applicator tools. These clips and medical instruments relate to the work of Don Casey who helped Marcus Filshie develop the clip in 1981 as a way to provide a simple and effective way of female sterilisation.
Consists of 10 clips:
6708.1/ 6708.2: two clear and paper packets of 'Stericlips' each containing two white and black plastic clips
6708.3: individually bagged translucent 'Pediclip', one sized as a medium
6708.4: individually bagged 'Pediclip', sized as thin
6708.5/ 6708.6/ 6708.7: clear jiffy bag containing three loose metal and plastic clips
6708.8: smaller jiffy bag with one larger plastic clip inside
Two plastic models of Filshie clips, to different scales:
6708.9: the smaller of the two is made of white plastic and held together with a metal dowel and has blue Plastazote inside it
6708.10: the larger one, which is missing its dowel which holds the two halves together and so is in two separate pieces. The top piece is made of grey plastic, and the bottom is white.
6708.11/ 6708.12: two sets of metal forceps type of instrument, that has a long metal stem and the handles operate a small metal pincer at the end which opens and closes.
6708.13/ 6708.14: two more metal implements that would have most likely been part of an applicator and vary in size and shape.
Two moulded plastic handled applicator tools, both slightly yellowing in colour:
6708.15: has a plastic formed body,but has a thin, long metal rod that protrudes from the front. There is also a spring loaded metal trigger which extends this metal rod
6708.16: the other applicator tool is also a mixture of yellowed plastic and metal, with a smaller metal nozzle and uncovered metal trigger. On the plastic handle, on both sides is written 105 in blue felt tip pen. It is also written on one side of the metal body.
There are two further miscellaneous objects:
6708.17: is metal and cylindrical and has two holes in it. it also has the number 105 on it
6708.18 is a plastic cone shape with a thick collar round the widest end. It has a thin metal pole running horizontally through the top and out either side. There are also two holes in the flat end
