Brass proportional compass or sector, by Michel Coignet, Belgian, 1600-1610 (c).

Sector with plain hinge (and copper inner hinge) and an iron spike on each arm. The two mobile arms form a square, polygon scale. Obverse carries double scales marked 'C' and numbered 12 to 4. Reverse carries double scales marked 'L' and numbered 12 to 2.
