Description Notes

simple cylinder microtome in box; engraved 'FMB'

The microtome has a circular top supported by two pillars, on a rectangular base with rounded corners. The base has inscriptions 'FMB' all faces of the base, and 12 times on the undersides of the base. As well as another set of FMB initials scratched into the surface by hand. C Zeiss Jena' is inscribed on the top face of the base.

The main body is brass. The circular top has a layer of black glass.

Also a wooden box with a key and metal handle on the top. The top of the box also has the initials FMB engraved, after Francis Maitland Balfour.
