course indicator , by J. R. Stebbing and Commander Hay R.N, English, 1862 (c)
Brass ruler (12in) with semicircle circumferentor with two scales. Three indicators arms pivot from a central point, they each have wire sights. There is also an upright swivelling sight that attaches onto the central point. With a fitted wooden case and accessories. The brass instrument is covered in finger prints and tarnish.
Inscribed on the right is is "Invented by Comr. Hay, R.N. & J.R. Stebbing F.R.A.S. Southampton"
On the left it has No.649, Stebbing monogram and a diamond registration mark for 1862
