Description Notes

Two toy sets for designing optical instruments, by Construments, English, c. 1925.

HC118.1 - Construments number “100” set de luxe for designing optical instruments. Includes many parts, including glass lenses, plastic filters, mirrors, metal screws and structural parts all housed in cardboard trays. One tray at the front can be removed with small metal handles and reveals another tray below. It seems as if some small parts are missing from the top trays, as four compartments are empty - although it is possible the contents of compartments have been combined. The “100” set consists of the “20” and the “plus” outfit combined. The instructions are included, and outline 81 possible models that can be made, as well as instructions for using microscopes, kaleidoscopes and micro-photography. The instruction booklet also advertises the “Construmag” which demonstrates various uses of the construment models. also includes a small book (perhaps sold separately), “How to Make and Use Scientific Optical Instruments” which contains instructions for 108 models. Includes the instructions for the “10” outfit also.

HC118.2 - A set for building 9.5mm or 16mm model cinematograph projectors in a separate black box, which comes from the Construments “100 plus” set. Lid illustrates direct cine projectors and daylight or cine-viewer projector.

Both in good condition. Although a part of the handling collection, because of its many parts, and the fragility of the instruction booklets, this is not ideal to be handled by groups of people. May be incomplete, due to quantity of parts that would have originally been included.
