Description Notes
Folding wooden Gunter quadrant, English, 1694.
Wooden Gunter quadrant with brass fixings. Constructed from two hinged semicircles, the quadrant can fold out into a circle. It is inscribed with the latitude 52 degrees, 15 minutes, the initials NM, and the year 1694. A heart-shaped border surrounds a Gunter quadrant with hour lines only, and a perpetual calendar table. A standard degree scale is engraved around the outside of the object.
Brass hinges attach the two wooden semicircles together, and two brass hooks with matching brass pins are imbedded into the wood for clasping the wooden pieces closed. Two further brass pins are imbedded into the back of the object.
