Description Notes
Augsburg dial, by Johan Schreteger, German, late 18th Century or early 19th Century.
Brass, octagonal-based Augsburg dial with a compass and three hinged elements; an equinoctial ring, a latitude arm, and a pendulum. The compass features cardinal points marked in Latin (S, OR, M, OC), as well as the magnetic North-South axis indicated by an E-E line. The compass is covered by a sheet of glass. The main body of the dial is decorated with engravings, as is the frame for the pendulum. There are three feet on the base of the object, on which it stands. The base of the object is also engraved with the latitudes of some European cities; Augsburg, Paris, Krakow and Prague, as well as the name of the maker: Schreteger.
