Description Notes

Gunter quadrant with sun dial, by W. Hayes, English, 17th Century.

Gunter Quadrant:
Brass gunter quadrant with 'W. Hayes fecit' engrave at the 90 degree part of the right triangle, there is a hole in the middle of the quadrant, with an engraving of a flower next to it. On the reverse side, there is an engraving of a tulip on either side of the quadrant, there is an engraving of a fountain pen, with wings on the sides of it, at the 90 degree part of the reverse side of the quadrant. In the middle of the reverse side of the quadrant, there are several engravings, only the bird and tulip are eligible to cataloguer.

Gnomon:
Gnomon with its curve in a S-like curve. At the bottom of the Gnomon there is 'COPY 1988' engraved on it.

Dial:
Sun dial with 1-12 engraving surrounding it in roman numerals. At the centre there is a dovetail slot for the gnomon. On the reverse side there are several brown smudges on the dial.
