Description Notes
Horizontal dial, fake.
Harp-shaped brass plate dial with sliding sundial and decorative elements. Main body of object is a thin sheet of metal, which stands on three feet, two of which are adjustable and removable. Around the outside of the plate, along the wider part of the harp shape, there is a clock in Roman numerals, running from IIII to XII, then from I to VIII. Inside this are decorative engravings, on an engraved background. This features floral elements, and two square crosses. Within this is a rectangular calendar scale, with the months marked by their abbreviations and subdivided into three, and a zodiac calendar marked by the zodiac symbols. December to May are along one side, July to December along the other, with June occupying a position on its own at the top of the scale. A circular sliding element sits within this rectangle. This circular sheet of metal acts as a sundial, with another clock face in Roman numerals, marked I to VII and V to XI. A triangular gnomon is attached to this circular sun dial. The base of the object is blank, with the underside of the sliding element visible.
