Circular brass plate surrounded by two brass rings. Obverse of central plate is engraved with curved vertical gridlines, and straight horizontal gridlines. A 4x 90 degree scale runs around the outside of the plate, marked at every 10˚ and subdivided at every 5˚. The vertical gridlines are numbered 1-11, and further subdivided into 3 parts. A rule is attached to the plate by a central pin, and can spin around this point a full 360˚. the rule is numbered 30 to 150 in one direction and 120 to 240 the other, both marked every 15 (30, 45, 60 etc.). The reverse of the central plate is also engraved with various scales, including a degree scale and a calendar with months and zodiac signs. On this side, there is a an alidade with two sights attached by a central pin, and this can also spin a full 360˚.
The interior ring has a 2x 1-12 scale in Roman numerals on its obverse, and is blank on its reverse. The exterior ring has two separate 0-90˚ scales, numbered every 10˚ and subdivided every 1˚ on its obverse, and one 0-90˚ scale on its reverse.
The central plate is attached to the exterior ring at two points, allowing it to spin around on its axis. The interior ring is attached to the exterior ring at two points 90˚ from the attachment points of the central plate and exterior ring, allowing it to also spin on its axis. The exterior ring has a ring attached to it, which is set onto a sliding attachment, which allows it to slide all the way around the outside of the rig dial.
