Description Notes

Terrestrial globe for the blind, German, 1950 (c)

Plastic globe mounted onto a wooden stand, on which it can rotate. The globe is painted largely in two colours, blue for the oceans and ochre for the land. There are raised bumps in red, which appear to be denoting key cities, although the red has largely faded on many of these. The surface of the globe is three-dimensional, with river systems, mountainous regions, meridian line, and the lines of latitude all raised higher than the rest of the globe. Small labels in Braille are also present in various places.
