Description Notes
42 bound volumes of individual pamphlets containing articles and extracts relating to scientifc research, bound together (contermorary binding). The volumes have 'Pamphlets' printed on the spine and the volume numbers either printed or stuck on the spine. Some volumes have also have 'A' on the spine: there is evidence that the Company had its own library so perhaps this corresponds to the library's classification system. Each pamphlet has a number added in blue pencil.
Includes Reprints and extracts of articles, printed by various magazines (produced to quickly disseminate scientific knowledge) including:
he Philosophical Magazine
The Royal Society
The Royal Astronomical Society
The Journal of the Society of Telegraph Engineers and Electricians
The Institution of Civil Engineers
The pamphlets Volume 1 appear to have been collated by Horace Darwin, presumaby for research and interest purposes. Several pamphlets are signed by Horace Darwin and others are inscribed by the authors.
Volume 2 includes one pamphlet (no 5) that is signed by Albert Dew-Smith, co-founder of the company.
There are indexes in the backs of volumes 1 and 2 which may have been written by Dew-Smith or Darwin.
