Description
This measuring microscope was donated to the Cavendish Laboratory in 1935 by the company Pye & Co upon the retirement of Dr. G.F.C Searle. The instument is missing the microscope, however it is largely complete, showing signs of heavy use.

The microscope was mounted on an apparatus attached to the worm gear, which was spun by a small hand crank on the side. Moved slowly, it allowed the operator to carefully scan the microscope over their subject, millimetre by millimetre.
