Inside of an ex-tobacco case, "J & P Bell" can be seen on the outside. Over the top is a label with typewriter written "pyknometer". On inside lid is a repeat of the outside front lid, detailing company name, tobacco name, location, and slogan.

Description Notes

Pyknometer, from the Howard Glassware Collection, believed to have been used to distill perfume oil, 1950s.

The pyknometer is in a small rectangular tobacco tin, which is highly rusted but the lid can still be read with its original information. Over the top of this is a label written by typewriter which says "Pyknometer". On the inside lid is a duplication of the wording on the top of the lid, with the tobacco company name, product name, location, and slogan. The pyknometer is wrapped in wool strips. It consists of three parts, a flexible rubber tube, rubber stopper, and glass pyknometer, a cylindrical tube with a pipe out of each end. One curves sharply while the other does a u-turn and runs parallel to the cylinder, turning the opposite way to the first pipe.
