Description Notes

Unequal arm and moving weight type; mahogany box, brass scale. Beam graduated [0.5] - [4.5], numbered by 1 and subdivided to 12 parts where each division is equal to 6 grains or one French franc; scale doubled on opposite side. Sliding weight. Steel knife edge bearing; ‘U’ shaped hanger with curved coin plate; single piece column with thin link to rest. Hinged to base plate in box. Erected manually. Mahogany box with clip fastening. Label in box giving weights of 22 European coins, and the values of the divisions; titled ‘Table des Monnoies d’Or qui ont cours dans les différent Etats de l’Europe, avec la désignation de leur Poids.’ and ‘La premiere Division indique les gros qui valent chacun 72 grams.’
