Description Notes
Boxwood rectangle. Engraved with scale of depression and elevation divided 60˚ - 0 - 60˚, numbered by 10˚, graduated to 1˚. Read by brass weighted arm mounted round compass needle. Opposite end of arm graduated 6 - 19, numbered by 1. Compass box glazed both above and below to allow view of sketch. Scale of degrees within scale of depression and elevation graduated [0] - [180˚] and [180˚] - [360˚], numbered by 10˚, divided to 1˚. Bevelled sides graduated 0 - 17 yards, numbered by 1 at 6 inches to a mile, and 0 - 12, right to left yards at 4 inches to the mile and left to right yards at 3 inches to the mile.
Reverse: ‘Normal Scale of Horizl Equivalents’ and ‘Horizontal Equivts in Yards for’ degrees 1 - 39.
Condition good; complete.
