Description Notes
Hinged brass plate with 3 feet (2 levelling screws). Standard inclining dial with pierced and decorated gnomon carrying latitude scale divided 30˚ - 80˚, numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚ (lacks plumb bob); 8 point compass rose; hour scale divided IIII - XII, I - VIII, numbered by I, subdivided to 5 minutes; when horizontal gnomon is set for 52˚ N. Horizontal azimuth dial plate with decorated perpendicular gnomon sliding over date scale divided to initialled month, subdivided to 5 days; zodiac scale also marked by sign and divided to 1˚ (1st Aries = 10th March); elliptical hour scale divided IIII - XII, I - VIII, numbered by I, subdivided to 5 minutes; degree scale around border divided 60˚ - 90˚ - 0 - 90˚ - 60˚, numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚. Reverse of azimuth plate carries sunrise and sunset scale along slit. ‘Sun rises’ divided IIII - VIII; ‘Sun Sets’ divided VIII - IIII; both numbered by I and subdivided to 5 minutes.
