Description Notes

Two tripod stands with two wooden and one metal leg. Wooden legs shod and bound in metal. Metal leg carries bubble level. Wooden legs move up and down the metal leg and are locked by wing nuts. Metal leg is extendable and carries optics and mount for staff. Scale on metal leg divided [1.33m] - 2.1m, numbered by 0.1, subdivided to 1cm. Mount allows staff to be positioned either vertically or horizontally. Optics consist of one telescope (with central vertical black line) and second tube with central vertical white line.
Two Sopwith staffs - wooden, painted on both sides. One side with metal scale for 1.5m. Scale divided 10 - [0], numbered 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3; subdivided to 1 cm. Scale changes sides at approximately 21.5cm. Another scale at other end divided for 22cm, marked ‘+.50m’ and with its far end 50cm from the end of the first scale.
Two short metal scales, each divided [0] - [22.2]cm, numbered by 1 from 2, first 2cm on other side of scale, subdivided to 2mm.
Fitted wooden box with steel hinges, catches, three carrying handles and chain for holding lid open. Photograph in lid of box shows arrangement of pieces of instrument in box.

Condition good (box fair - rather worn); complete.
