Description Notes
Boxwood with engraved paper scales covered in varnish. Turned finial stamped ‘37’ with remnant of twine suspension loop. Cylinder tapped to take folding German silver gnomon. Calibrated with ‘half-phase’ sinusoidal hour lines; those for ‘Matin’ divided 6 - 10.30, numbered for every 30 minutes; those for ‘Soir’ divided 1.30 - 6 (6-1.30; 13-1-2000), numbered for every 30 minutes. Associated and uncalibrated scale marked ‘Echelle pour observer les hauteur correspondantes’. Straight month lines with named month, for every 8 days; divided at top to 2 days (not consistently 8 days, 13-1-2000). Marked ‘48˚ de latitude’ and ‘Style 0m. 0. 37’.
