Description Notes

Brass cube set on a turned pillar with hinge to allow adjustment for latitude. Rectangular base with floral swag decoration; putti on East and West faces. In base an inset compass with silvered base; 8 points marked; magnetic variation marked at 15˚ W of N.
Horizontal dial divided IIII - XII, I - VIII, numbered by I, subdivided to 15 minutes.
North dial divided IIII - VIII, IIII - VIII, numbered by I, subdivided to 15 minutes; marked ‘NORD’. South dial divided VI - XII, I - VI, numbered by I, subdivided to 15 minutes; marked ‘SUD’. West dial divided I - VIII, numbered by I, subdivided to 15 minutes. East dial divided IIII - XI, numbered by I, subdivided to 15 minutes; also marked with latitude scale divided [0] - [90˚] ([10] - [90˚]?, 11-1-2000), numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚.
