Description Notes
Wooden dial with hand-coloured engraved paper scales and brass gnomons. Cube set on a turned wooden pillar with hinge to allow adjustment for latitude. Rectangular base with 4 feet (recent); putti with laurel crown on base, and putti with rural scene on East and West vertical faces. In base an inset compass with cardinal points marked; magnetic variation marked at 15˚ W. List of towns and latitudes.
Horizontal dial divided 4 - 12, 1 - 8 and V - XII, I - VII, numbered by 1 and I, subdivided to 15 minutes.
North dial divided 4 - 7, IIII - VII and 5 - 8, V - VIII, numbered by 1 and I, subdivided to 15 minutes; marked ‘Mitternacht heist diese stunde Preiset Gott mit hellen munde’. South dial divided 6 - 12, 1 - 6 and VI - XII, I - VI, numbered by 1 and I, subdivided to 15 minutes; marked ‘Eine stund ist gleich vorbeij Shaue was das leben sej’. West dial with pin gnomon, divided I - VIII, numbered by I, subdivided to 15 minutes; zodiac signs also marked. East dial with pin gnomon, divided IIII - XI, numbered by I, subdivided to 15 minutes; zodiac signs also marked; marked with latitude scale divided [23˚] - [78˚], numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚.
