Description Notes
Brass; 3 screw levelling feet with knurled heads; inset compass silvered 8 point rose; divided 0-90-0 by 10 to 2o; 2 bubble levels set into the compass face; blued steel needle; silvered latitude arc divided 60-0 by 10 to 1 o; silvered hour circle divided IIII-XII, I-VIII by I to 5’; folding brass gnomon.
Fitted wooden box, covered with black shagreen and lined with green velvet. Brass hinge and hook fasteners. Contains card with ‘Incling Dial [sic, MS] This dial belongs to Warren Hastings. c.1800 [typed, date amended to 1732-1818 by DJB]’.
Condition of box - fair (lining coming away from sides)
